The today and future home is becoming a very challenging area, both in term of usage and in term of technologies. Indeed, more and more digital services are offered to home users, through Digital TV, Broadband Internet, Advanced Telephony and Home Automation. Each of these services is relying on numerous technologies and associated standards but with barriers between each others. We are building the first true multimedia communication platform allowing convergence of digital home services and home usages. We are aiming at improving but also simplifying home user's experience with a brand new area of exciting and useful applications. We are putting Canon consumer imaging products in the heart of the home.
Web technologies are everywhere, at home, in office environment, on the road. Images are dominating the Web. We are aiming at optimizing the integration of digital images, still pictures and video within the Web. To do so, we are researching the Web Service technologies, the image related communication protocol technologies as well as the Digital Image Right Management technologies. Canon imaging products and solutions are becoming more and more secure, powerful and user friendly.
Digital Images are very special objects, with increasing quality and size. To take care of those new images, we are researching new embedded technologies to optimize storage as well as transmission. In particular, we are developing leading edge Error Correction Codes to improve storage density on recording media as well as image compression technologies to speed up image transmission and storage.
