The image compression activities of Visual Communication Engines consist in developing a highly efficient image compression algorithm re-using JPEG’s Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). This original approach allows superior visual quality of images as compared to JPEG, even for high bit rates (high images definitions); of course it is possible to work at equivalent image quality with the advantage of substantially smaller file sizes.
As the trend for digital imaging is becoming stronger, it will be reinforced by the implementation of the innovative VCE compression technology which is improving current performances. Reducing transmission time and/or decreasing the backup size while keeping equivalent picture quality will cut down the image usage costs and improve the usage comfort.
