Digital cameras manufactured by Canon and others are producing digital images of increasing quality and resolution. Viewing these high-resolution images over the Internet is quite a challenge, and despite the increasing availability of broadband Internet access, full transmission of the image in order to view its every detail is not an acceptable solution. High-resolution viewing solutions are required which transmit only the image information requested by the user (an overview, a detailed zoom-in into a portion of the image, a pan…).
CRF is researching and developing a high-resolution image browsing technology which:

Is based on ISO 15444-1 (JPEG2000) and ISO 15444-9 (JPIP) standards,

Is optimally bandwidth-efficient: only minimum needed information is sent to satisfy the user’s request,
- Is adapted to any terminal viewing characteristics (display size, Internet access bandwidth).
